Advice for the Remaining 8 Survivor: Fiji – Advice for the Remaining 8
by Jeffrey Clinard -- 04/26/2007
The Syndicate made a power move, forcing the Four Horsemen to squander the immunity idol – and to go down to Three Horsemen. Who is on the right track, and who needs to make changes? And who is the most dangerous player out there?
If there is one thing about Survivor I’ve learned, it is that sometimes good plans have flaws, and nature always sides with it. Mookie gave the idol to Alex with the idea of trapping their opponents with the vote. It might have even worked, except that Dreamz told them everything, and the Syndicate decided to not take any chances and vote out Edgardo instead.
Dreamz actually seems to keep progressing despite his poor play, though it should be noted nobody trusts him. There is a good reason for that, as his telling of secrets meant that Alex, Edgardo, and Mookie lost their chance to take control of the game, while the Syndicate didn’t trust him enough to tell him the vote had changed once again.
Meanwhile, Cassandra stepped up her game quite a bit by winning the reward challenge and carefully selecting the people who went with her on the ship. It’s always better to take the votes that are up for sale on such outings instead of your allies. This is partly because leaving the undecided votes and the enemies behind gives them a chance to plot. It is generally a good idea to minimize the time the enemy has to lobby.
What I didn’t expect was for the hidden immunity idol to be relocated. The Exile Island strategy has changed considerably now. Instead of sending an enemy, you’d be wise to send an ally. Alliances can’t afford to let the enemy gain control of the idol, so limiting the people who have clues is a good idea.
The reward challenge was another variant on the coconut challenge, with more intelligent play. Many players went for the knockout blows just to eliminate others, regardless of their feeling about the person. Stacy was kind of picked on, but didn’t let it get to her, even at Tribal Council
There is plenty of game left, and another idol is out there. What should everybody be doing to advance their games? It’s advice for the remaining eight.
Cassandra: You played out your hand well in the last episode, helping to secure the trust of Dreamz, and at least attempting to get Boo’s vote. It established you’ve taken an active role in controlling the tribe, which juries like. Vote out Alex or Mookie, and see who is open to a new deal when four votes control the tribe.
Stacy: I’m not sure if you have any allies, but you did vote in a way to protect yourself. The question is if you can reverse the situation you are in, which is being disliked and not seen as a player. I think there is a time for it, but it isn’t right now. You are probably safe for a vote or two, then you need to look at forming a new group when the Syndicate feeds on its own. That is your window of opportunity to change the game. You’ll need to start laying the groundwork with some of the outsiders, like Boo, Dreamz, and possibly Cassandra. You should get rid of the power players like Earl and Yau-Man once Alex and Mookie are gone.
Earl: So far you are in a good position. The Syndicate is holding up and took out one of theHorsemen’s best weapons in the form of the immunity idol. You must keep going after the outsiders, while setting up a chance to win the game by forming side deals with Yau-Man and Cassandra. The key is going to make them believe you’re the best bet in proceeding. Good luck!
Yau-Man: You are starting to look like the most dangerous guy out there, as you keep winning challenges, including the first individual immunity necklace. You are also well-liked, which is going to be a short term problem but a long term advantage if you make it to the finals. The key is going to be getting rid of your enemies, then using your hidden immunity idol to deflect the vote so your faction dominates. I think Earl, Cassandra, and Dreamz would be a good team, but you can substitute Stacy if Dreamz seems too unreliable.
Boo: If you were looking for a place to land, the Syndicate offered it to you. It was the best offer on the table, and it can work for you if you play it right. The first thing is to get rid of Alex and Mookie, then turn on Yau-Man and Earl. It gets rid of the power players and sets up a good chance for you to win immunity until the jury phase. Ideally, you want a final three of yourself, Stacy, and Dreamz, as it has your best chance to win. Play for this situation.
Alex: You made a pretty good play when you decided you didn’t have the votes to control the eviction. You talked Mookie out of the hidden immunity idol and played it with the expectation of bouncing the vote. It didn’t work, because Dreamz knew, and talked. What you want is either immunity, a trip to Exile Island to pick up the clues, or an attempt at a new alliance of five that can control the vote. I would try all three, with Boo, Stacy, and Dreamz being the people to approach for votes. Suggest they are going to be discarded soon, and you have a better deal. It can’t hurt to try.
Dreamz: Your biggest problem is nobody trusts you, and for good reasons. You tell people strategies and secrets. It burned Edgardo when you talked about Alex, and the Syndicate didn’t trust you enough to tell you he was the new target (leaving you with a stray vote for Mookie). It’s hard to regain trust, but you need to start with Cassandra, then outsiders Stacy and Boo. I don’t know if you can regain the trust you lost, but if you keep you mouth shut, they may decide they need your vote soon.
Mookie: It wasn’t a bad move to give Alex the idol, it just backfired because Dreamz talked too much. Like Alex, you need to do three things; go to Exile Island if you can, win immunity if you can, or try to pick up three votes, starting with Stacy, Dreamz, and Boo. Suggest if they vote with you, they will control the tribe when five players are left and can go to the finals. It’s not a bad deal and will buy you some time.
Edgardo: What went wrong? Not enough votes, one big mouth, and a good strategy by the Syndicate. They were right, you know, you can go after the leader, or go after their power base. That’s just what they did to you.
